Spread the Work

Holidays are a big deal at our house. We have a large family, so the work is not just for the day, but for days ahead of time: cleaning, organizing, planning the menu, setting up extra chairs, etc.

When my children were little, most of these jobs would fall upon me. Now that they’re older, I’ve pressed them into service.

What fun is Thanksgiving or Christmas Day if mom is about to lose her cool from all of the work she’s done?  Or if mom is so exhausted she’s ready for the house to clear out – and fast!

Instead, spreading the work across the family makes hosting for a holiday much easier and more enjoyable for me.  The jobs are done faster and with less effort.

This is a simple concept but it’s a powerful one.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. And it wasn’t built by just one person.

When I get busy in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I roll up my sleeves and start doing everything by myself. And then I get crabby and then I wonder why no one is helping me.

When I am level-headed, I delegate. The jobs get done and I’m much happier.

This makes for a very happy holiday, or any day, honestly. Delegating is a powerful concept - and is the only way to advance at home or at work. I’d like to share what I’ve learned with you.
